Lust For Life is Lana Del Rey’s fifth studio album, following 2015’s Honeymoon. The album is a body of work created by Del Rey and long time producer and collaborator Rick Nowels, along with the comeback of Born to Die producer Emile Haynie. She described the aesthetic of the album as a “Retro sensibility with a futuristic flare,” adding: I love the sound of the record, it has everything that I love sonically. I made my first 4 albums for me, but this one is for my fans and about where I hope we are all headed. The title Lust for Life was first used for Irving Stone’s 1934 biographical novel about Vincent Van Gogh. It has also been used to name songs and albums by Iggy Pop, Drake, Childish Gambino, Girls and Heavenly. The filter and the cinematography are absolutely gorgeous. The actual theme is quite subtle, I have quite an abstract theory on it. I was thinking perhaps that the Weeknd's movements represent a timeline of the world from 2012 to the present. In the beginning, we see her In a bland theatre, singing to no audience (like the Lizzy Grant era), but then the week'nd (the world) helps her up, and she ascends to the top of the world (stardom). The next few years are peaceful, she is comfortable with the world, they sit and talk. Then his intentions become more malicious, as he begins to remove her clothing ( she loses a part of herself) and she tries to run away, but the world grabs her and holds on (literally). The precipice of the D represents the present: uncertain and unstable.
